Why look for a Light Blue alternative?

Light Blue has supported many photographers for years, and plenty of them are loyal to it: the software is complete and stable, and it covers studio management from the first enquiry all the way to payment.

But Light Blue is British software that you install on your computer, in English and billed in pounds sterling. It doesn't include photo galleries, and its invoicing isn't built around European rules: invoices that can't be altered, electronic invoicing, copyright transfers. These points matter more and more for a photographer working in Europe.

What Light Blue does well

Let's be honest: if you're using it today, there's a good reason.

  • Very complete software, designed for photographers
  • It works even without an internet connection
  • Every feature in a single subscription
  • Accounting exports to QuickBooks and Xero
  • Responsive email support, in English

Why European photographers leave Light Blue

Software you have to install

Installation, updates, syncing between your devices, a limit of 5 devices on the basic subscription: with an online tool, you log in and everything is there.

Invoicing that isn't made for European rules

Electronic invoicing, mandatory invoice details, VAT, invoices that can't be altered or deleted: Light Blue isn't built around these rules.

In pounds sterling, without galleries

The subscription is billed in pounds, and to deliver your photos you need a second tool, such as Pic-Time or ShootProof.

Tamper-proof invoices

Invoices nobody can alter or delete

Several European countries require invoicing software to guarantee that an issued invoice can't be altered or deleted. In France, for example, the anti-VAT-fraud law sets 4 conditions: data must be unalterable, secured, retained and archived. These are the rules checked by the NF525 certification. Light Blue makes no guarantee on these points: a sale can be moved to the trash and then deleted. Fotostudio applies these rules to every one of your invoices.

Locked invoices

As soon as an invoice is finalised, its content is locked: lines, amounts, VAT, mandatory details and contact information no longer change. To correct it, you issue a credit note.

No deletion

A finalised invoice can't be deleted, and the numbering runs on without a single gap.

An event log and closings

Sensitive operations are recorded in an event log, and daily, monthly and yearly closings lock your totals.

Signed tax archives

Your tax archives are generated and electronically signed. In case of an audit, anyone can check that they have never been altered.

Fotostudio is not NF525 certified: instead of the certificate, French law accepts an individual statement from the software publisher, which we provide on request.
